Why Horses?

Horses are majestical creatures who live in the present moment; offering wisdom to anyone who is willing to listen. They can evoke and bring to light emotions, feelings, thoughts, patterns, and body sensations which over time support the expansion of self-awareness.

Horses offer a safe non-judgemental space, allowing you to feel truly seen, heard, loved and understood. They will offer you authentic feedback, a place to be yourself and will be there during your journey of self-discovery.

What can you expect during a session

The Equine Assisted Learning sessions support experiential learning. Unlike a room based setting you will be out in nature spending time with the practitioner and the herd which are  facilitated by the practitioner and the herd whilst out in nature with the horses. Each session is unique and will depend on your goals and why you have come.

The way the sessions are run (structured or unstructured) will depend on why you have come and what your learning goals are. There are many various experiences you can have with the herd; some examples are horse observation from a distance to being in with the horses, brushing, leading, and if suitable mounted sessions. (Note: there is no horse riding involved).

Unique multifacet Approach
  1. AWARENESS - Can be defined as "full embodiment of the present, with acknowledgement and acceptance of one’s thoughts, feelings, sensations, and environment" During the session, me and the herd helps to support your AWARENESS through safe exploration of your body sensations, feelings, thoughts, and habitual patterns. There is also a focus on THE OTHER- this is the way you relate in relationship with the practitioner, horses, animals & people in your life. THE ENVIRONMENT  around you Sensing into the field and your broader environment.

  2. The Paradoxical Theory of Change - 'What you resist, persists"The paradoxical theory of change invites you to turn towards what you are experiencing in the here and now and not turn away from it; it is turning towards what is unfolding right now, the raw truth to our experience. Instead of a “solution-focused” “ideal self”. Over-time, this supports us to take more risks and express who we truly are more authentically. A life of suffering now becomes one of freedom, peace, capacity, and resilience.

  3. I-Thou Safe Relationship - Our sessions together allow for spaciousness and a genuine interest and authentic approach to your perspective.I'm solely focused on being fully present, letting go of any preconceived notions. So I can see you for the first time, in all your uniqueness.

  4. Regulation of the nervous system - Better understand how your nervous systems uniquely reacts to experiences and regulates responses. Co-regulation. neuroception the 3 pathways
